Are rottweilers really that protective?
I was planning on adopting a big dog(rottweiler, doberman, golden retriever, or lab), when I saw this video.
Would rottweilers really be that protective
? Or do you think that dog was just born that way? If I adopted a puppy how would I teach it to be submissive to me?
Oh I meant protective of their own stuff
I know what the difference between aggression and protectiveness. I just put the wrong word.
That dog is not being protective!
He is being FOOD AGGRESSIVE!! Which should never have been condoned in that household!
Protectiveness and aggression (whether it be food, dog, or human aggression) are two VERY VERY different things. If you are going to be a first time owner, or an owner with no experience with “bully” breeds, do NOT get a Rottweiler. They are not dogs for the inexperienced, or uneducated. Seeing as how you thought that aggression was protectiveness, I suggest looking into another breed.
EDIT: to answer your question about all Rotti’s being that way, no they are not all that way. Owners who have no idea what they’re doing, or are not willing to put in the time and effort breeds like Rotti’s need, cause problems like that.
EDIT2: Agreed, Shanti. Anybody can walk up to my dogs (if they are familiar with that person) and take food right out of their mouths. A dog being food aggressive is a serious issue, which would not be put up with in my home.
EDIT3: Dobes are also not a good choice for a first-time dog or bully breed owner.
